The Arizona Cardinals named Centennial High School star running back Kavaughn Clark the team’s High School Player of the Week.
Just a sophomore, Clark was honored after a dominating Nov. 13 performance with 284 yards and four touchdowns on 24 carries in the Coyotes’ 42-28 win over Chaparral High School. Late in the fourth quarter, his two touchdown runs (20 and 86 yards) broke a 28-28 tie game and clinched the win for Centennial.
Clark will lead Centennial against Liberty in the Nov. 27 opening-round playoff game in the AIA open bracket.
The 6-2 Centennial Coyotes defeated the Liberty Lions 34-24 Nov. 20. Liberty led at halftime, but Clark kicked into high gear, rushing for 226 yards and three touchdowns.
For Liberty, senior quarterback Brock Mast has led the Lions to a 5-3 season, tossing 19 touchdown passes in the shortened regular season. In the 5A bracket, top-seed Sunrise Mountain will host Desert Edge Friday, Nov. 27.
Peoria High will travel to play top-seeded Casa Grande Friday, Nov. 27, in the 4A bracket.
