The Liberty Lions baseball team celebrated its 6A state baseball champions with a ring ceremony on Aug. 19 at Liberty Buick in Peoria. The 2020-21 Liberty Lions baseball team finished the year with 19 consecutive wins and a victory over Alhambra in the 6A Arizona State Baseball Championship game.
Liberty High School’s baseball team compiled a 21-3 record and was recognized as one of the top high school baseball teams in the nation, ranked No. 6 by Baseball America and No. 10 by MaxPreps. The 2021 season marked the Lions’ third state championship in baseball since the school opened in 2006. It is the school’s second championship in the past four years under the leadership of coach Chris Raymond.
The ring ceremony was a celebration of the coaches and players who put together a season that resulted in national recognition.
Peoria Mayor Cathy Carlat recognized the team for its outstanding dedication and effort during a recent city council meeting. The mayor also issued a proclamation that Aug. 17, 2021, is “Peoria Liberty Lions State Baseball Champion Day.”
