The family of law enforcement officers pray every day that their husband, wife, mother or father will come home safely after each shift. They bear the personal burden of sacrifice so the call to serve and protect can be answered. While the officer is vigilant to serve, the family members pray, waiting for the sound of the door so they can breathe a sigh of relief, until the next day when they do it all over again.
Last week, Peoria Police Officer Jason Judd lost his life in the line of duty. The family of Officer Judd will no longer wait for the sound of the door. Our hearts are heavy for their tremendous loss and the pain borne by his wife, his children, and those who loved him and prayed for his safety each day.
It was not long ago that the Peoria Police Department lined the streets in honor of Peoria resident and Phoenix Police Commander Greg Carnicle. His 31-year commitment to serve and protect ended with a shot that took his life and devastated his family forever.
These officers put their lives on the line with courage and compassion. Their families supported their calling, putting the good of the community ahead of their own restful sleep, all the while knowing the dangers, the fear of waiting and the weight of the risk.
My prayers are for strength and comfort for the families of Officer Judd and Commander Carnicle. The courage of your loved one is matched only by your courage and relentless will to forgo your restful nights for that of others.
We will forever honor the memory of your loved one, and we owe you a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid for the tremendous sacrifice of your family.
