Tech 1 Auto Ribbon Cutting Fred Hules

"Tech 1 Auto owner Fred Hules, along with wife Yolanda and members of the shop and community, cut a ceremonial ribbon outside the shop in Peoria."

A staple of auto maintenance and car care in Peoria celebrated a change of ownership on Nov. 7, as Tech 1 Auto cut a ceremonial ribbon with the Peoria Chamber of Commerce.

At its official grand-opening gala, several dozen people socialized around a barbeque with drinks, a full-sized NASCAR racecar, a canned food drive and even a raffle for several hats signed by a NASCAR driver in honor of the face-lift. Several potential customers and chamber members were also given tours of the facility.

New owner Fred Hules said he bought the building, located at 8768 W. Thunderbird Road, and started operations in early May, but waited until October for the ribbon-cutting ceremony because Arizona fall weather is more favorable when hosting outside events.

He has previously worked on cars for the last several decades and shop ownership is just a long-awaited dream come true. He always appreciated the service and location of this particular business. According to Hules, the previous owners of Tech 1 Auto were set to retire but agreed to prolong their ownership for a few months, until he was ready to purchase. The shop was originally opened in 2003.

“It all kind of came together at the right time, and I’m really excited,” Hules said.

Hules said one of the major considerations for purchasing an auto repair store is the location. He has always been fond of the west valley, noting Peoria in particular, as a highly desirable area. He noticed community members are almost always friendly and willing to support local businesses.

The shop itself offers state-of-the-art repair, for all sorts of vehicles. But more importantly, Hules wants his business to be known as a friendly place for local residents to conduct their business with others who support the community as well.

“We really want to have people working here who care about not just the cars, but about the service and everything else they’re providing,” Hules said.

“We’re people helping other people, it just so happens that our particular business involves motor transportation.”
