Peoria is the place to visit during tourist week

National Travel and Tourism Week runs May 1 to May 7.

This year it celebrates the

#FutureOfTravel and the industry’s role in fostering vibrant communities, driving innovation, facilitating recovery and powering the U.S. economy — in every corner of the country.

Recently, the city of Peoria was ranked No. 1 as the best city in Arizona to live, work and play.

And, while this is not news to Peoria residents, it is the best place for people to visit as well. From Spring Training and Lake Pleasant to the thriving entertainment and arts and culture scene, Peoria is an ideal place to explore.

The last Second Saturdays event for the season is from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 14. The city of Peoria hosts these free, family-friendly events every second Saturday of the month in Old Town Peoria. In May, activities will focus on a salute to heroes in honor of Memorial Day.

Got hazardous waste?

It is time to get rid of all your unwanted household hazardous waste in a safe manner.

Improper disposal of household hazardous waste can cause fires in city solid waste vehicles, contaminate Peoria’s water system and endanger the environment. The city of Peoria is scheduling appointments for the May event. Request an appointment online at or call 623-773-7836.
