Valleywise Health opened its newest comprehensive health center near Grand Avenue and Cotton Crossing in Peoria.

The three-story facility intends to provide quality health care to Peoria and all West Valley residents with immediate access to in-person or virtual appointments for primary and pediatric care, women’s obstetrics, cardiology, dental care, dialysis and pharmacy.

In the months to come, Valleywise will also offer general surgery, orthopedics, podiatry, gastrointestinal, audiology, diagnostic imaging and laboratory services.

Nelson Silva-Craig, director of nursing at Valleywise Health, refers to the new location as a “one-stop shopping concept.”

“One of the best-kept secrets is the fact that we offer so much under one roof,” Silva-Craig said. “We’re here for everybody in the community. Everyone is treated equally; everybody receives the same high level of care that we have provided all of our patients.”

In addition to the multiple health care services available, Valleywise is committed to serving the community with specialized programs, such as the Family Learning Center, Silva-Craig said.

The FLC offers services such as an educational kitchen or classes with registered nurses and registered dieticians about living or caring for someone with diabetes. The FLC is open to everyone in the community.

“It’s always beneficial to work with other individuals who have your same condition,” he said. “If you’re in a group with several other individuals who have diabetes, you’re able to share your concerns, your challenges, your triumphs, and maybe you’ve learned a really great recipe that is low in carbohydrates that works well for a diabetic diet,” he said.

With a company mission to “provide exceptional care, without exception, every patient, every time,” Silva-Craig said Valleywise does just that based on a longstanding history of serving the community.

“We’ve been around for over 100 years and we have always served the community, especially the underserved within Maricopa County. That is one of our areas that we focus on. We’ve always been very cognizant of the needs of the community,” he said.

One of the many ways Valleywise works with its patients to ensure quality care is the implementation of eligibility specialists.

The eligibility specialist assists any patient or family member that enters the clinic that is unsure of how to pay for their visit or doesn’t have insurance. Through an application, based on the person’s income and other general information, Valleywise then determines what the patient qualifies for, including discount programs.

“We accept you for who you are, how you are, where you’re at, and we will work with you to provide you with the very best care possible. We’ll always work with you with whatever the particular situation is,” Silva-Craig said.

To better serve all members of the community, a majority of the staff is bilingual, Silva-Craig said.

“Because we serve many different groups and many different languages, we use telephonic interpreter services. In addition to that, we also have cultural navigators, which are individuals from the community from that particular group who serve as interpreters and help navigate the system,” he said.

Silva-Craig said he’s excited for Peoria and all West Valley residents to experience the quality of care that Valleywise has to offer.

“One thing that is indisputable is our commitment to the community. We have been here over 100 years, and I think that speaks for itself for dedication. The fact is that we’re vested in the community, that we’re here for the community and that we’re not leaving,” Silva-Craig said.
