Ashin Tricarico

Surprise resident and alleged drive-by shooter Ashin Tricarico is connected to an incident in May.

Ashin Tricarico, 19, has been indicted on several charges stemming from a string of drive-by shootings earlier this month.

His charges include one count of first-degree murder, nine counts of drive-by shooting, 20 counts of aggravated assault and one count of endangerment.

The bulk of Tricarico’s charges stem from a string of shootings that occurred on June 17; however, police have connected Tricarico to two more shootings up to a week prior.

At 8:30 p.m. June 10, a 34-year-old unidentified woman reported that someone had pointed a gun at her while she was driving near 8700 W. Lake Pleasant Parkway. There were no injuries or damages reported from this incident, police said.

Six days later, at around 6:15 p.m., a 46-year-old man reported he was shot at while driving near 9400 W. Olive Avenue. There were no injuries or damage reported from this incident either, police said.

As for June 17, the first shots were fired at the vehicle of a 23-year-old woman and 3-year-old child at around 11:08 a.m. June 17. Neither were identified. Police reported the incident occurred around 10300 W. Northern Avenue and the vehicle was damaged.

The woman sustained injuries from shrapnel, and the child was reported to have escaped unharmed, police said.

Things took a turn for the worst at 11:27 a.m. when 67-year-old David Liebler died from a gunshot wound to the head while driving near Loop 101 and West Thunderbird Road, police said.

The shootings did not stop there, as three victims were shot at near 11000 W. Union Hills Drive.

A 45-year-old man sustained injuries due to shrapnel, and a 19-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to her leg, police said.

At the same scene, a 40-year-old woman’s vehicle was damaged by gunshots, but police said she was not injured.

Not long after or far from that scene, around 11:45 a.m. a 29-year-old man was injured from shrapnel and his vehicle was damaged near 10900 W. Union Hills Drive, police said.

Another incident was reported nearby as a 34-year-old man, who was walking, was struck in the arm by a gunshot at around 11:45 a.m. near 11400 W. Union Hills Drive. It was also reported that the victim fired shots back at the gunman, police said.

At 11:52 a.m. an 86-year-old man and woman were driving near 21800 N. El Mirage Road, where one of them was injured by shrapnel, police said.

The final scene was near Loop 303 and Happy Valley Road, where three men were shot at around 11:52 a.m.

They are ages 34, 56 and 23, and two of them were injured by shrapnel. Their vehicle was damaged by gunshots as well, police said.

Tricarico’s vehicle was spotted near 147th and Grand avenues by the Surprise Fire Department, which immediately alerted the Surprise Police Department, around 12:42 p.m.

Tricarico was taken into custody without incident and is being held at Maricopa County Jail on a $1 million bond.
