The Arizona Cardinals have made history by becoming the first NFL team to have a sportsbook at their stadium with the opening of the BetMGM Sportsbook at State Farm Stadium.

Debuting just days prior to the Cardinals matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, the BetMGM Sportsbook was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting event by Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill, BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt, MGM Resorts International CEO and President Bill Hornbuckle, and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey.

While the event is groundbreaking in the NFL world, it’s nothing new to the world of Arizona sports venues. The Phoenix Suns debuted the FanDuel Sportsbook at Footprint Center in September 2021, and the Arizona Diamondbacks opened up the Caesars Sportsbook at Chase Field this past June.

Since its launch in September 2021, legal sports betting has taken Arizona by storm. According to a study, Arizona bettors wagered over $1.7 million on online gambling apps in the little under four months where it was legal in 2021, and over $3.3 million so far in 2022.

Sports betting has been all the craze in Arizona, and the Cardinals wanted to find a way to integrate it into the State Farm Stadium gameday experience. At the ribbon-cutting event, Greenblatt expressed his excitement about working with the Cardinals.

“Right from the start, the Arizona Cardinals shared BetMGM’s passion for the pursuit of improving fan experience to breaking down barriers, and together this is what we’ve done,” Greenblatt said. “I cannot express how historic a day this is here in Glendale, Arizona. The opening of the first sportsbook on an NFL property is truly a milestone event.”

While there are numerous different sportsbooks the Cardinals could have partnered with, Bidwill said that it was an easy choice to partner with BetMGM.

“We wanted to make sure that we aligned with world-class partners, and we did when we teamed up with BetMGM,” Bidwill said. “Everything quickly came together, and we decided we wanted to do something that had never been done before, which is to put a sportsbook in the place where the best tailgating is happening in the United States, and that’s The Great Lawn right outside the front door.”

Hornbuckle explained this was not just a big move to promote and grow the BetMGM brand, but the MGM brand as a whole.

“For us at MGM Resorts, it’s about a unique opportunity,” Hornbuckle said. “The idea for us is the connectivity between sports betting, engagement and getting people to enjoy themselves.”

The BetMGM Sportsbook at State Farm Stadium comes fully loaded with everything a football fan could dream for to enhance their gameday experience.

The sportsbook is two stories, over 17,000 square feet and has a bar and grill inside. Games can be viewed on the sportsbook’s 265-square-foot video wall, or 38 different TVs placed throughout the building. There will also be more than 25 kiosks where bettors can place their wagers.

“The BetMGM Sportsbook at State Farm Stadium is one of the most revolutionary additions an NFL stadium has seen in decades and unlike anything fans have encountered on game days,” Greenblatt said. “BetMGM shares the Arizona Cardinals’ vision in pursuing new ways to break barriers and entertain fans.”

Bidwill knows the importance of this opportunity for the Cardinals, and said that it’s a chance to not only improve the experience of die-hard Cardinals fans, but it’s a chance to welcome new ones.

“We are proud and thrilled to be the NFL’s first team to offer its fans this type of unprecedented amenity and innovative experience,” Bidwill said. “The BetMGM Sportsbook at State Farm Stadium gives us a chance to engage current and potential fans on a year-round basis in a fun, entertaining and responsible way.”

Bidwill doubles down on this opportunity to engage new fans, even if it’s not game day, as the sportsbook will not only be open to the public during Arizona Cardinals home games, but it will be open seven days a week. It will be open at 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays, and 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Ducey concluded the grand opening event by expressing his excitement about the future of this partnership between the Cardinals and BetMGM, and the special opportunity it poses for the state of Arizona.

“I look forward to a great season from the Cardinals,” he said. “This new offering is an exciting way to get more fans engaged, and it’s going to continue to rise to new heights. I believe that the BetMGM Sportsbook will perfectly fit in with the Red Sea.”
