Eastbound Happy Valley Road

Eastbound Happy Valley Road was closed until about 10 a.m. Oct. 20 after a road rage shooting in the area.

A man was shot near 91st Avenue and Happy Valley Road at 7 a.m. Oct. 20 in what police suspect was a road rage incident.

According to the Peoria Police Department, a caller advised dispatch that a man was shot and lying in the roadway. The alleged shooter also phoned to report the incident and pulled his vehicle south onto 91st Avenue to wait for officers.

Upon arrival, officers located a man, the driver of a gray Dodge Charger, with a gunshot wound to his leg. Peoria Fire Medical transported the man to the hospital with nonlife-threating injures. The alleged shooter, who drove a red Honda Civic, was detained and was not injured.

Preliminary information shows that the driver of the Honda pulled in front of the Dodge on Happy Valley Road at 91st Avenue and then stopped.

The Dodge’s driver exited his vehicle and approached the Honda’s driver at the driver’s window. An altercation occurred at the window, and at some point the driver of the Honda shot at the man, striking him in the leg. There was a child passenger in the Dodge who was not injured. The child was turned over to another family member who responded to the scene.

Detectives are still investigating, and no arrests have been made.
