The Peoria Police Department is investigating a fatal stabbing of a 65-year-old woman.

The suspect is her husband.

Around 6 a.m. July 4, Peoria police responded to a 911 call stating that a stabbing had just occurred at a house in the 8900 block of West Tierra Buena Lane, near the Peoria Sports Complex.

“Officers arrived on scene and located the victim, a 65-year-old female in her home with several stab wounds,” said Brandon Sheffert, a Peoria Police Department spokesman.

“Officers and fire personnel provided medical care on scene. She was transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.”

Sheffert said a 63-year-old man, the husband of the woman who died, was found at the home. “He also had several cutting injuries. He was also transported to the hospital with significant injuries and remains hospitalized,” Sheffert said.

A witness who called 911 told police the suspect stabbed his wife, according to Sheffert.

“We believe this to be an isolated domestic violence incident between a husband and wife,” Sheffert said.

Asked for the suspect’s name, Sheffert said, “That is not available right now, as he is still hospitalized.”
