Heart giving

Benevilla is hosting the West Valley Life Enrichment Day Program open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, at the Church at Cactus, 8133 W. Cactus Road, Peoria.

At the open house, people can learn about the West Valley program and meet Director Anthony Arsiniega and his staff.

One of four Benevilla Life Enrichment Day Programs, this interactive program supports a diverse group of people with a wide range of care needs.

The program provides daytime care for members with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease as well as adults with disabilities or those disabled by a stroke who live in Peoria, Glendale and West Phoenix.

Activities are adapted for specific physical challenges to include everyone’s participation.

Members are in a club-like atmosphere with the support of professionals and volunteers focused on the personal needs of each person.

With a focus on socialization, activities include cognitive stimulation through brain games; meaningful activities; group exercise; a creative arts program; discussion groups; public outings; and interaction with participant-centric entertainment, including singing, dance and memory challenges.

The West Valley program has been in operation for more 22 years.  A specially designed Essential Lifestyle Program is tailored for members by an enrichment specialist and implemented by Benevilla staff. They receive morning and afternoon snacks and a nutritious lunch prepared fresh each day by Benevilla’s Birt’s Bistro.

Days are enjoyable, staff said, with outings, meals and social exchanges.

To make reservations, call 623-584-4999. COVID-19 restrictions will be in place, with social distancing and masks required. All who attend will receive a free swag bag.

Benevilla is a not-for-profit family services agency dedicated to enriching the lives of West Valley residents by providing care services for older adults, adults with disabilities, children and families.
