Peoria City Council

Peoria City Council celebrated 35 young artists from Peoria Unified School District who participated in the Young Artists Program.

At its first meeting of the year Jan. 7, Peoria City Council unanimously appointed Councilman Michael Finn to serve as vice mayor and Councilman Jon Edwards to serve as mayor pro tem. Both are one-year terms.

“The appointment of these positions is critically important as we take care to protect Peoria residents from any lapse in accountable leadership and proper representation,” said Mayor Cathy Carlat.

The vice mayor performs the duties of the mayor during the mayor’s absence or disability. The mayor pro tem performs the duties of the mayor during the absence of both the mayor and the vice mayor.

Council also celebrated 35 young artists from the Peoria Unified School District spanning kindergarten to eighth grade who participated in the eighth exhibition of the Young Artists Program.

“The city of Peoria is home to incredibly talented youth and it’s an honor to show off their artistic creations at city hall,” said Carlat. “Art is truly the heart and soul of a community. By recognizing the creativity of our kids, we strengthen the powerful impact that comes from incorporating the arts into our lives.”
