Beautiful still life with professional art materials, close up

Park West shopping center and the city of Peoria are launching a public art competition with the theme of #PeoriaProud.

“During these challenging times, it’s more important than ever to promote positivity and the strength of our community,” says Kelly Price, Park West business development manager. “This art competition is just one way to let our West Valley residents showcase those attributes in a way that the entire community can enjoy.”

Peoria artists of all skill levels are invited to participate by submitting their original uplifting masterpieces in any 2D medium, such as drawings, paintings and digital illustrations.

The top four winning entries will be reproduced in large-scale vinyl format and installed on Park West storefronts in early October for shoppers and the community as a whole, to enjoy.

West Valley artists can find an online submission package and details at

Entries will be accepted through Thursday, Sept. 10.

The judging begins with a public Facebook vote from Friday, Sept. 11, through Sunday, Sept. 20, via @ShopatParkWest, where entries will be narrowed down to the 10 finalists with the highest vote count. From those finalists, judges from the Peoria Arts Commission will select the top four winners.

Judges will select winners based on criteria including how well the design encompasses the theme, compelling and uplifting design, balanced and unified overall composition and the design’s ability to translate to a large format.

Each winner will be able to select a gift certificate to their favorite Park West store or restaurant—$500 for first place, $250 for second place, $100 for third place and $50 for fourth place.
