A farewell reception was held Aug. 16 for Peoria Police Chief Roy Minter, who is leaving to take a position as chief of police in Savannah, Ga.

During a farewell reception Aug. 16 at Peoria City Hall, several police chiefs and commanders spoke with Minter and members of Peoria City Council, and Mayor Cathy Carlat expressed their appreciation for the work Minter accomplished.

“What a difference you made here. You’ve been there for all of us,” Carlat said.

In a release announcing Minter’s departure, Carlat said, “Over the last seven years, Chief Minter has built strong partnerships with leaders throughout the Valley and has been the ever-present face of public safety to our residents.

“His leadership has contributed to a city where families feel safe in their homes and in their neighborhoods …”
