Peoria Mayor Cathy Carlat

Mayor Cathy Carlat may have the chance for a “three-peat,” if Peoria voters extend the  mayor’s term limit.

Will Cathy Carlat be a three-term mayor?

Right now, that’s not possible, as Peoria City Charter states the mayor can serve no more than two consecutive terms.

But, at its June 2 meeting, Peoria City Council approved giving voters the chance to change that to a maximum of three consecutive terms.

Carlat took office as Peoria’s first female mayor in 2015 and was reelected in 2018 to serve a second four-year term. Prior to becoming mayor, she was voted on Peoria City Council starting in 2005, then she was reelected two times.

Council also passed a resolution that will ask voters to give the mayor and council an annual cost of living salary increase, not to exceed 3%.
