Gabriel Brandin

Gabriel Brandin was arrested in Glendale and charged with hitting two Peoria police officers with his vehicle.

Gabriel Brandin, a 40-year-old Avondale resident, was arrested Sept. 26 and charged with hitting two officers with his vehicle.

According to the Peoria Police Department, a store employed called and said a man was shoplifting at the Walmart at 21655 N. Lake Pleasant Parkway.

“Officers arrived and contacted the suspect in the parking lot of the business,” said Sgt.  Amanda Gaines of the Peoria Police Department.

“As the officers attempted to detain the suspect, he resisted and was able to enter his vehicle, start the vehicle, and reversed as the vehicle doors were open, striking two officers.”

The officers had minor injuries, she said.

“The suspect vehicle fled the scene and was located by an officer in the area of 9900 West Beardsley Road. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle but it failed to stop and fled at an excessive rate of speed and officers did not pursue the vehicle,” Gaines said.

An air unit tracked the vehicle to 9900 W. Glendale Avenue in Glendale.

“Officers in the area located the suspect as he exited his vehicle and he was taken into custody without further incident,” said Gaines.

Brandin faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, unlawful flight, endangerment, shoplifting, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence.
