Hazel Heinz, 96, born Hazeldell Johnson, in Peoria, Ill., passed away quietly March 6 in Peoria, in her home that she helped build 65 years ago with her husband, Albert Heinz, and her father, Edward Johnson.
Mrs. Heinz spent most of her years in Peoria, where she served as a second-grade teacher in the Peoria Elementary School District for 25 years. She was also a longtime, active member of Peoria Presbyterian Church.
In addition to the many second-grade students she taught, she will be remembered by her family and their neighbors in the small, tight-knit neighborhood of seven houses. She is survived by her children, Ruth Murphy, Steven Heinz (Pamela), and Andrew Heinz (Linda), plus six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. They will fondly remember the many family vacations that Hazel and Al sponsored after their retirement.
Services will be held 11 a.m. March 24 at Peoria Presbyterian Church, 10236 N. 83rd Ave., Peoria. Donations can be made to the HartPantry.org.
