Della Estelle (James) Jones, 83, long-time resident of Arizona, died Nov. 9, 2016 of progressive Alzheimer’s. Mrs. Jones was born Jan. 28, 1933 in Dodge City, Kan. She fell in love and married Sam Jones in 1952 and they soon moved to California to build their life and family together.
She was a passionate seamstress, artist and master gardener. She found great joy in creating elaborate, handmade, all occasion cards, dolls, quilts and lap blankets for her loved ones. Becoming an avid square dancer with her husband, they traveled together as “Snow Birds” for many years. She sewed beautiful costumes that they wore as they “do-si-do” ed at their dances.
Enjoying the warmth of Arizona, Sam and Della retired to the Peoria area 21 years ago. She is survived by her beloved husband, Sammie Bill Jones, married 64 years; children, Carol Lynn Jones, Mikel Allen Jones, and Sharon Kay (Jones) Campbell; grandchildren, Alicia Jones and Nicholas Campbell; three great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia (James) Murphy; and numerous other family members and friends that will miss her dearly.
Private services are being held at National Memorial Cemetery.
