MY DR NOW, a clinic offering a variety of services, recently opened a new location at 83rd Avenue and Camelback Road in Glendale.
The clinic launched on March 27 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that was attended by Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers; Grand Canyon University Assistant Vice President of Academic Alliances Dr. Cherryl Paul; representatives from the Pendergast and Glendale elementary school districts; plus MY DR NOW founder and CEO Payam Zamani, clinic staff and other community members celebrating the newest addition to the Glendale community.
The clinic offers a wide variety of services that include adult primary care, pediatric primary care, bloodwork and lab testing, advanced women’s health, medication management and refills, and mental health, among others.
Tomas Jimenez, the office manager at the new Glendale location, said this location was important to him because he grew up in the area.
“I grew up in this community,” Jimenez said. “I’m from the Downtown Glendale area. So opening up this office here really touches home, and it allows me to help the community as well as friends and family from the surrounding community.”
Specifically, he said this clinic was important for the community, as there weren’t many primary care doctors around the area. He also said this clinic was vital, as the clinic is staffed with bilingual English and Spanish speakers.
“There’s a lot of Spanish-speaking people in this area,” he said. “It was a focus to have a Spanish-speaking crew here just for that reason — to help the community out with the barrier problem. Sometimes Spanish-speaking patients feel intimidated by not speaking English, and here they can feel comfortable knowing that they can speak their natural language.”
This isn’t the only way the clinic reaches out to the community. Jimenez said they reach out to school districts to get children sports physical and immunizations — which they offer from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.
He said they also give out gift cards as an incentive for people to get wellness checks.
“For any wellness visit, like physicals, those patients get a $20 gift card from us,” he said. “So, if you were to come once a year, you can get that gift card from us. Also, if you show up with a group of three, we also give a gift card to that group of three. It’s just a thing our practice offers to promote help with physicals and healthy visits.”
He said the clinic focuses on community outreach because its mission is to make health care affordable and accessible to all.
“Our philosophy is to take away barriers that patients have and make everything ridiculously easy and affordable,” he said. “You can walk in, and we can do house visits. If you don’t have insurance, we do have cash pay. We also offer a discounted health plan where you pay $39 a month and every office visit is $10. We offer advanced triage protocols free to those cash-paying patients. If they come in for a sore throat, they’re going to get a free strep test.”
The community outreach and discounted programs have already proven to be vital to the community. Jimenez said the clinic has been busy since their opening.
“We have already seen over 200 patients in (our first) 12 days,” he said. “The first week we hit it out of the park. We are seeing about 30 or more patients a day. We already have up to 18 Google reviews, and they’ve all been awesome. From the moment the patients walk in to the moment they leave, they have been happy.”
At the end of the day, Jimenez said the clinic is there to help as many people as possible. This mindset is consistent throughout each of the clinic’s locations, which includes one in Peoria.
“I don’t think there should be a barrier when it comes to insurance or anything like that,” he said. “You see that in our clinic. We speak Spanish, and it’s very conveniently located right in the Safeway shopping center.”
