CENTENNIAL 21, CHAPARRAL 19 - Centennial jumped out to a 21 point first quarter lead before having their defense hold on for a 34-27 victory over No. 10 ranked Phoenix Chaparral Nov. 10 at Centennial High School in the 5A quarterfinals.
The win sets up a 5A semifinal re-match against No. 3 Liberty (11-1) Nov. 17 at Peoria High School, the team that gave the No. 2 Coyotes their only loss – 21-19 - in the final regular season game.
No. 2 ranked Centennial (10-1) will face No. 3 ranked Liberty (11-1) 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at Peoria High School in a rematch of the Oct. 27 final regular season game where Liberty came from behind for a 21-19 win to give the Coyotes their only loss of the season.
LIBERTY 42, ORO VALLEY IRONWOOD RIDGE 28 - After being tied at halftime, Liberty scored three second half touchdowns to pull away from a tough Ironwood Ridge team for a 42-28 quarterfinal victory.
No. 3 ranked Liberty (11-1) will now face a rematch against Centennial (11-1) in the semifinals Nov. 17 at Peoria High School.
Ryan Bendle combined for 312 yards (184 passing, 128 rushing) and five touchdowns as Liberty erupted for 475 yards in the win. The Lions’ defense, which struggled early, allowing 10 points a game coming in, allowed 21 first-half points before adjusting and stopping Ironwood Ridge in the second half.
Jett Kinsch rushed for 97 yards and caught 12 passes for 97 yards while Ryan Bendle caught 11 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
TUCSON SALPOINTE CATHOLIC 49, CACTUS 14 - After a dominating first round victory over Phoenix Moon Valley, Cactus faced a daunting task traveling to Tucson Salpointe Catholic in the quarterfinals Nov. 10.
The Lancers scored four first quarter touchdowns and the Cobras could never rebound as Salpointe Catholic cruised to a 49-14 victory to end Cactus’ season.
Salpointe Catholic (11-1) advanced to the semifinals to face No. 1 Peoria Sunrise Mountain (11-1) at Ironwood High School 7 p.m. Nov. 17.
