Gonzales, Malnar and others received recognition from the “Y” for their support. Donors who donate $1,000 become members of the Glendale/Peoria YMCA President’s Club.

The Glendale/Peoria YMCA held its special recognition and awards luncheon July 20 to show its acknowledgement and appreciation for financial, time and service donations. Some of the funds raised help to fund swim lessons.

YMCA offers many programs for the entire family. Councilmember Ray Malnar is the Glendale City Council representative from the Sahuaro District. His district does not have a city-owned swimming pool or recreation center, but the YMCA does. The “Y” offers swimming, child care, fitness classes, sports, after-school programs and programs for adults and seniors.

“I am a strong supporter of the YMCA for many reasons,” Malnar said. “It provides kids, teens, adults and seniors with a wide variety of fun, healthy and affordable activities year-round. I am especially grateful for the swimming lessons the ‘Y’ provides to youths who cannot otherwise afford them. These programs are critical to ensure Glendale kids will be safe around water. I am also very grateful for the many citizens who regularly volunteer or make financial donations to the YMCA.

“The Sahuaro District, which I represent on the council, does not have a pool or recreation center. The Glendale/Peoria YMCA fills this much-needed resource for residents of the district. Thanks to Shelly Smith and the board of the YMCA for all they do for the city and the neighborhoods that I represent.”

Reuben B. Gonzales with We Care! Insurance and Financial Service, said, “It was my pleasure to serve as this year’s chairman of President’s Club for the 2018 YMCA Annual Support Campaign. As a President’s Club member, I donated $1,000 or more to this year’s campaign. Our successful effort raised monies that will be used to help pay for services for families in our community that cannot afford to do so on their own; services, such as free swimming lessons, before- or after-school programs, summer camps, youth basketball, youth volleyball, and many other services that make a difference in our community. The Y’s motto of youth development, healthy lifestyle and social responsibility match up well with my core beliefs of faith, family and strong work ethic. The Y makes a difference in people’s lives every day. I am happy to serve.”
