City offers assistance programs

The city of Peoria offers several assistance programs for its residents. Here are just two of those programs:

Emergency Home Repair Program

The city’s Emergency Home Repair Program provides emergency home repairs to low/moderate-income homeowners. Repairs up to a lifetime maximum of $20,000 (manufactured homes are limited to a maximum of $5,000) are provided at no cost to assist eligible residents to maintain safe and functional owner-occupied housing.
How it works
Step 1: An Emergency Home Repair Program application that identifies eligibility and a description of the problem to be corrected is provided to the Community Assistance Division accompanied by all supporting documentation.
Step 2: The Community Assistance Division reviews the application. If the applicant meets all criteria, a HUD required environmental review is ordered and city staff will review the property to assess the work to be done.
Step 3: If all required criteria has been met, the work will be scheduled with the homeowner.
Step 4: If applicable, a lien will be placed on the residence for any repairs costing $5,000 or more. There is a $20,000 accumulated maximum limit per address.
Who completes the work?
The program staff will contract jobs to a vendor who has met contractor qualification guidelines. Interested individuals can obtain an application by calling 623-773-7667 or online at www.peoriaaz.gov/communityassistance.

Neighborhood Pride Program

Oct 27 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Volunteer to help revitalize a Peoria community through the Neighborhood Pride program. Volunteers and city staff will paint homes and place gravel in the Braemar neighborhood on Oct. 27, National Make a Difference Day. Braemar neighborhood is between 67th and 69th avenues from Cheryl Drive to Cinnabar Avenue.
Neighborhood Pride is designed to help established neighborhoods maintain their appearance and value. The program is a cooperative work effort between the city and residents to offer assistance to individual property owners for improvement of their properties by the award of materials and volunteer help. For those planning on volunteering, be sure to wear close-toed shoes and a hard hat.
