Glendale Police Department receives reaccreditation for 2018

On July 28, the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. (CALEA) awarded reaccreditation to Glendale Chief of Police Rick St. John. The recognition classified the Glendale Police Department as a “meritorious” agency, a classification reserved only for agencies that remain accredited for more than 15 consecutive years. The Glendale Police Department was first accredited in 2000 and each accreditation is good for three years.

An advanced assessment was conducted April 9 to 12 to examine all aspects of the department. The examination included an assessment of policies, procedures, management, operations and support.

The assessment is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation, a highly prized recognition of professional excellence in the field of law enforcement. The goal of the assessment is to show the Glendale Police Department is in compliance with more than 450 professional standards, as established by CALEA.
