Pastor Paul Witkop serves as an ambassador for Hope4Kids. He was seeking financial donations for his organization June 28 at Glendale Rotary Club.

Turn on the tap, let the glass fill with water, then after taking a sip, a lot of people dump the remainder down the drain. In some parts of the world, what many of us think as a simple drop is a lifesaver.
Pastor Paul Witkop of Hope4Kids International told a Rotary Club gathering a couple of weeks ago, “The No. 1 killer of kids in third-world countries is lack of clean water.”
It may have sounded as if Witkop were preaching to the choir. The Rotarians had just learned they could take their cases of bottled water to a member’s place of business, where they would be loaded for transport to the Glendale Corps of The Salvation Army.
Witkop told of how he joined forces with Hope4Kids. He took his three children to Uganda on a mission to witness the dedication of wells donated by the congregation of his church. It was a life lesson for Witkop and his children.
“When a well is dedicated, it’s almost like a church service,” Witkop said.
Hope4Kids Development Director Ruth Sanchez said the organization has a presence in Uganda, India, Mexico, Guatemala, Romania, Cuba and the Philippines. Hope4Kids sends volunteer teams to those countries with food and other supplies. They help renovate dilapidated buildings and also sponsor disadvantaged children.
Sanchez said the four pillars of Hope4Kids are dignity, health, joy and love.
In its brochures, Hope4Kids states its commitments to provide clean and safe drinking water by drilling deep-water boreholes. In addition to providing medical supplies and nutritious meals, Hope4Kids also contributes funds to ensure life-saving surgeries are performed when necessary.
