Welcome, everyone, to another edition of Business Briefcase, where we address all the great happenings in the local business world — whether it be openings, closings, construction and development, ribbon-cutting ceremonies and expansions, chamber mixers and networking events or something else.

This time, mark your calendars for exciting events. Here’s the news!

First, the Peoria Chamber of Commerce will host a networking group for women from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, September 20. The group will meet at a new location — Huntington University, 8385 W. Mariners Way. The event is free for chamber members but all other will have to pay $10. To register, visit the calendar section on chamberorganizer.com.

Next, for those who are unable to attend the previous networking event, Vertical Church of Phoenix will host its fourth annual Refresh and Restore Women’s Conference from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, September 21, at the Rio Vista Recreation Center, 8866 W. Thunderbird Road. Tickets are $35. With a theme of “fearless and free,” there will be worship, teaching, performing arts and vendor shopping. Moving along, the Peoria Chamber of Commerce will hold a free Shred-a-Thon from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, September 21, at Affirm Wealth Advisors, 7992 W. Thunderbird Road, Suite 110. Come on down to get business documents, personal mail or anything else shredded for free. Also on site, the company will accept canned donations for the Phoenix Rescue Mission. Finally, Vial Fotheringham Law Firm and the city of Peoria will host a free HOA class at 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, at Peoria’s development and community services building. The class will teach attendees how associations should remain financially fit by making smart choices and not overindulging. Also, the class will teach attendees the process of creating budgets, funding reserves and setting the amount of assessments.
