Celebration of the Peoria Experience

Mayor Cathy Carlat hosted more than 700 Peoria residents, business representatives and community leaders over the past three months during her 2019 State of the City Address tour.

With seven events held throughout the city, Carlat unveiled a new approach this year by taking her address directly to Peoria residents and presenting a State of the City video.

The nearly 30-minute video, referred to as a “Celebration of the Peoria Experience,” was produced by Peoria’s Office of Communications and highlighted multiple stories of residents who live, work and play in the city.

“After meeting with so many amazing residents over the past few months, one thing is clear,” Carlat said.

“Peoria residents have a lot of love for our city. It’s an exciting time for our community; and as we create the future that serves residents of today and those still to come, I am honored for the opportunity to lead Peoria’s transition from a bedroom community into a thriving, modern, complete city.”

Carlat kicked off the tour with a sold-out, business-sponsored event in April. The city of Peoria and the Peoria Chamber of Commerce co-hosted the event, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the mayor’s charity of choice, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 62.

From there, Carlat was joined by Peoria City Council and city leaders at six community events, held at locations throughout Peoria, including Rio Vista Recreation Center, Peoria Community Center, Trilogy at Vistancia, Ventana Lakes, Westbrook Village and Copper Hills Church.

With a commitment to fiscal accountability and transparency, Carlat shared the vast possibilities of what she calls “a complete city,” while reaffirming her focus on attracting quality development and employers who will benefit residents and enhance Peoria’s built and natural environments.

Upon completion of the tour, Carlat presented the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 62 with a donation of more than $5,000.

“The auxiliary has created a noble legacy of service,” Carlat said. “I am honored to present this donation as they continue their far-reaching efforts to improve the lives of our veterans and their families.”
