As customers are looking for new and convenient ways to shop, Walmart is testing innovative concepts by combining digital and physical assets that enables customers to shop when, where and how they want.

Starting last February, Walmart began testing free online grocery pickup at select stores in Phoenix, Ariz. Local customers have the option to shop at area Walmart stores or order groceries online for free pickup. Tens of thousands of items are eligible – from fresh produce, meat and seafood, dairy, bakery items, health and beauty products to electronics and toys – and Walmart anticipates expanding the assortment as the test progresses.

Currently, free pickup is available at three Walmart stores in the East Valley, but the test will soon expand to additional stores, including Glendale.

In order to be part of the test, customers will visit and enter their zip code. Customers who are eligible for the test will be prompted to sign in or create a Walmart Grocery account. They can then browse the Walmart Grocery assortment online. Eligible items will carry the same prices as local Walmart stores.

During checkout, customers choose a designated store to visit and select a 4-hour pickup window, and same-day pickup is available. Orders placed by 2 a.m. will be available for pickup after 8 a.m. and orders placed by 10 a.m. will be available after 4 p.m.

There is a $30 minimum purchase for all Walmart Grocery orders and pickup is always free. Customers can return items at the time of pickup or return items to a Walmart store.
