Joel Cooper, a osteopathic family physician and Peoria resident, recently joined Banner Urgent Care, the urgent care service division of Banner Health. He will be working primarily at Banner Urgent Care, 21980 N. 83rd Ave.

“I am excited to have joined Banner Health, an organization with a reputation for excellence in patient care throughout the state,” said Cooper. “Working at this specific location in Peoria will enable me to serve many of my neighbors, literally. It’s a great feeling having that kind of relationship with my own community.”

Cooper lives in Terramark, just minutes away from the Banner Urgent Care Peoria clinic.

His former experience includes more than four years working in other urgent care clinics in Arizona, as well as many years in family practice.

Cooper, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of The University of Denver, received his undergraduate degree in mass communications and psychology.

He worked for many years as a medical writer, reporter, editor and photographer prior to returning to his alma mater for his pre-medical education.

He earned his medical degree (D.O.) at Midwestern University, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed his residency in family medicine at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland, Ky.

He is board certified in family medicine.

Cooper has maintained his journalistic credentials. He writes articles and blogs on a regular basis for an online publication reaching physicians and other health care professionals. He also continues his strong interest in photography.

“I love photographing the beautiful and often breathtaking sunsets in Peoria,” he said.

Banner Urgent Care provides a close, convenient and affordable treatment option for patients with non-life threatening illnesses and injuries such as cold and flu; ear, eye and throat infections; fevers; skin rashes; and sprains, strains and lacerations. Banner Urgent Care is open every day of the year, and accepts most insurance plans.
