The West Valley Vet Center, a Department of the Veteran’s Administration’s Specialty Clinic is hosting a community education seminar 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 10 at Rio Vista Recreation Center, 8866-A W. Thunderbird Road.

Peoria has the only VA veteran counseling center in the nation certified to counsel both combat veterans and their family members.Residents are invited to come and learn about the vet center during this free seminar.

The seminar will be focused around healthy veteran transitions, PTSD and coping mechanisms for veterans that are faced with difficult life situations. We will discuss VA access to care, mental health options and other benefits of being assisted at the Vet Center. The seminar will end with a question and answer session.

The presentation will be conducted by Christian Cooper. Cooper is the outreach coordinator at the West Valley Vet Center. He served as an Air Force Combat Veteran for seven years, serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. He holds a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from Liberty University. He sits on the Surprise Military Affairs Committee and other community veterans boards. He is also a member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Chapter 20 in Glendale.
