Peoria Public libraries offer a variety of book discussion groups, open to the public. The following groups meet on a monthly basis:
Novels @ Night Adult
Want to meet some interesting characters? Open a book. Want to meet some real-life interesting characters, too? Join the Novels @ Night book club. Adults 18 and older are invited to join the group, which meets from 6 to 7 p.m. the third Thursday of each month in the Activity Room of the Peoria Main Library, 8463 W. Monroe St. Upcoming scheduled discussions include “Vinegar Girl” by Anne Tyler on Aug. 16 and a Louis L’amour Western on Sept. 20.
Between the Covers
Participants are invited to take a friend and join the Between the Covers book discussion group for a discussion of books at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays at Sunrise Mountain Library, 21109 N. 98th Ave. Call Cathy Coffman at 623-773-8650 for more information. Upcoming scheduled discussions include “Prince and the Pauper” by Mark Twain on Aug. 21 and “A Man Called Ove” by Fredrik Bachman on Sept. 18.
After Lunch Book Bunch
Everyone’s invited to the After Lunch Book Bunch book club at 2 p.m. Thursdays at Sunrise Mountain Library, 21109 N. 98th Ave. Upcoming scheduled discussions include “Prince and the Pauper” by Mark Twain on Aug. 23 and “Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie” by Alan Bradley on Sept. 27.
Manga and Comics
Teens are invited to the monthly Manga and Comics book club at the Peoria Main Library to discuss manga, comics and anime with other graphics fans. Games and stories are also shared. Tonya Stuempfl, the teen librarian, will summarize a couple of the manga and comic books that are in the library, then roll out the new stuff that debuted that month. Manga and Comics book club members get to check out the new comics and manga first — before they are put on library shelves. This month’s meeting will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Peoria Main Library, 8463 W. Monroe St.
