Barbara Lamb Mills, 79, of Sun City, was called to heaven May 11, 2018. Mrs. Mills, the second of three girls, was born Jan. 30, 1939, in Alliance, Ohio, to W. Lowell and Eleanor A. (Huth) Lamb. Her parents later moved to Ashtabula, Ohio, where Mrs. Mills attended elementary and high school. After graduation, she enrolled at Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio, receiving a degree in elementary education.
Mrs. Mills then returned to Ashtabula and began her teaching career. In 1964, she married James C. Mills, now deceased, of Ashtabula. They were blessed with the arrival of their daughter, Kelly, in 1971. Mrs. Mills and Kelly moved to the Phoenix area in 1978. She continued her teaching career, retiring from Peoria Unified School District after many wonderful years.
Mrs. Mills had a zest for life that was contagious. She loved to laugh, have fun, and surround herself with friends and family. Every person she met was a potential friend for life. She kept in continual contact through phone calls and visits with her family, old friends from Ashtabula, and friends in the area. No one was ever forgotten. She was an avid reader and valued the importance of learning.
While serving as a teacher, Mrs. Mills loved her students and fellow staff members, giving them support, guidance, and some good humor along the way. She had a big heart for people she did not know, crocheting winter neck scarves for the homeless, school children, and Navy Seals. Playing cards, traveling, hosting parties, cooking, and doing craft activities were her passions.
Her greatest passion was Ohio State football. She could be found in front of the television on game days decked out in an Ohio State jersey, socks and Buckeye jewelry, cheering the team to victory.
Mrs. Mills regarded her daughter, Kelly, as her greatest accomplishment. We will dearly miss this bright star in our lives that captured our hearts.
Mrs. Mills is survived by her daughter, Kelly Mills; sisters, Judy Robertson and Sherry Sheppard; nieces, Christine, Amy, and Beth; nephew, Charlie; great nephews, Nico, Zach, Kawika, and Jack; childhood friend, Barbara Basilo; and many dear friends.
